Toppers split midweek doubleheader with NCAA DII Christian Brothers, battle back to take game two

Blue Mountain, Miss.- BMCU faced off against NCAA Division II foe Christian Brothers University on Tuesday at the BMCU Sportsplex, dropping game one 7-3 before responding with a gritty 5-4 extra-inning win in game two to split the midweek doubleheader.
In game one, the Buccaneers struck early and consistently, plating runs in the first, third, and fourth innings to build a 3-0 lead.
The Toppers answered in the fourth when Rachel Rommel delivered an RBI single to score Gail Wisher and cut into the deficit. Blue Mountain continued to battle in the fifth, tying the game at 3-3 behind a two-RBI single from Kelsey Camp that brought home Anna Harrison and Neely Barrier
With her two RBIs in the inning, Camp set a new Blue Mountain Christian single-season RBI record with 35.
However, Christian Brothers broke the game open in the sixth inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues and timely hitting to score four runs and pull away for the 7-3 victory.
Anna Harrison led the Toppers at the plate in game one, going 3-for-4 and swiping three bases. Camp finished with two RBIs, while Rommel added a run-scoring hit. Bri Langley took the loss in the circle, tossing five innings with one strikeout, while Madison Montgomery provided two scoreless innings of relief.
The Toppers responded in game two with resilience after falling behind 2-0 in the first inning. Blue Mountain broke through in the fourth, as Bre Ramsey sparked the rally with an RBI double before Karen Wisher followed with a two-RBI double to give the Toppers a 3-2 advantage.
Christian Brothers answered with two runs in the fifth to reclaim a 4-3 lead, but the Toppers refused to back down. Mikaylah Fuqua tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.
In the eighth inning, Blue Mountain capitalized on an opportunity as Gail Wisher delivered a walk-off RBI single up the middle, scoring Fuqua and sealing the 5-4 victory.
Neely Cooper was strong in the circle for the Toppers, going the distance in the extra-inning win while allowing four runs on six hits and striking out three.
Offensively, Blue Mountain tallied nine hits, with multiple players contributing key moments, including Ramsey, Karen Wisher, Fuqua, and Gail Wisher.
With the split, the Toppers continue to show their ability to compete against strong competition, bouncing back with determination and composure in game two.
