Montgomery, Ala.- The Blue Mountain Christian Toppers opened SSAC play Saturday with a road doubleheader against the Faulkner Eagles, falling in both contests despite several individual efforts at the plate and in the circle.
In game one, BMCU was locked in a pitching duel throughout the afternoon as Faulkner edged the Toppers 2-0.
Blue Mountain Christian managed three hits in the contest, led by
Anna Harrison, who went 2-for-3 with a double, and
Neely Barrier, who added a double as well.
Madison Montgomery delivered a strong performance in the circle, throwing a complete six innings while allowing just two runs (one earned) on six hits.
The Eagles broke through with a run in the fourth inning and added an insurance run on a solo home run in the fifth to secure the win.
In game two, Faulkner used timely hitting to take a 12-2 victory in five innings.
The Eagles built their lead with four runs in the second inning and added three more in the third before a five-run fourth inning.
BMCU recorded two runs in the contest, including an RBI double from
Mikaylah Fuqua.
Aspen Teague also recorded a hit, while Laklyn Nichols scored a run for the Toppers.
Blue Mountain Christian finished the game with four hits.
Defensively, BMCU was charged with six errors in game two, which allowed Faulkner to extend innings and capitalize on additional opportunities.
In the circle,
Neely Cooper started for the Toppers and recorded four strikeouts, while Jana Shaw also saw action in relief.
