Pulaski, Tenn.- Blue Mountain Christian delivered one of its most full performances of the season on Saturday, mounting a determined comeback to force double overtime before falling 94–93 to Tennessee Southern in an SSAC double-overtime thriller at the Curry Athletic Complex.
Tennessee Southern controlled much of the early action, building momentum through efficient offensive possessions and creating separation as the game progressed.
Despite the deficit, the Toppers remained composed, continuing to execute and stay connected on both ends of the floor while searching for opportunities to swing the game back in their favor.
Blue Mountain Christian began to shift the momentum late in regulation, finding rhythm offensively and applying increased defensive pressure.
The Toppers chipped away at the lead possession by possession, answering key baskets and making timely stops to force overtime and extend the contest beyond regulation.
Senior guard
Gavin Shannon led the comeback effort with a team-high 31 points, providing consistent shot-making and leadership throughout all five periods.
Michael Hill added 23 points, attacking the defense and converting critical baskets that helped push the game into extra time.
Jonathan Baker contributed 12 points with a physical presence inside, while
Chris Tackett added 11 points off the bench, delivering timely scoring during the comeback and overtime stretches. The Toppers' balanced effort and depth allowed them to respond to every challenge as the game tightened late.
Neither team was able to break through during the first overtime, sending the contest to a second extra period where each possession carried added weight.
Tennessee Southern converted late in the second overtime to secure the one-point decision.
The Toppers host ABAC for senior night at 7:30pm on Monday.
