Blue Mountain, Miss.- The Blue Mountain Christian men's soccer team battled No. 14 Faulkner University on Thursday afternoon but ultimately fell 3-1.
No. 14 Faulkner opened the scoring in the 17th minute when José Lucca headed home a rebound to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage.
The visitors extended their lead in the 23rd minute as Bernardo Juca found the back of the net off an assist from Asaph Silveira.
The Toppers responded in the 26th minute when
Davi Vieira connected on a shot from outside the box that struck the inside of the left post before finding the back of the net. Vieira's goal cut the deficit to 2-1 and brought BMCU back within striking distance.
Faulkner regained its two-goal advantage in the 40th minute when Angel Ugwumba scored off an assist from Pepé Riofrio, sending the Eagles into halftime with a 3-1 lead.
Blue Mountain Christian continued to compete throughout the second half, holding the nationally ranked Eagles scoreless over the final 45 minutes.

Luan Nascimento played all 90 minutes for the Toppers, recording four saves, including three in the second half.
Offensively, Vieira led BMCU with three shots, including two on goal, while accounting for the Toppers' lone goal of the afternoon.

Yalin Alici each contributed a shot as BMCU finished with eight attempts.
Faulkner recorded 18 shots in the contest, including seven on goal, while the Toppers maintained their defensive efforts throughout the second half to prevent any additional scoring.
