Marietta, Ga.- The Blue Mountain Christian University men's soccer team put together a strong defensive effort against No. 4 Life University on Friday evening but ultimately fell 1-0 in a tightly contested SSAC matchup at Lupo Field.
Facing one of the nation's top-ranked teams, the Toppers held the Running Eagles scoreless throughout the opening 45 minutes. Both teams recorded four shots in the first half as BMCU matched Life's intensity and kept the contest deadlocked at halftime.
The Running Eagles eventually broke through in the 60th minute when Thomas Rodella found the back of the net at the 59:49 mark, giving Life a 1-0 advantage.
Despite falling behind, Blue Mountain Christian continued to battle in search of an equalizer. The Toppers recorded four additional shots in the second half, including two on goal, but were unable to find the finishing touch against the nationally ranked Running Eagles.
BMCU finished the evening with eight total shots, placing three on target, while Life recorded 10 shots throughout the contest.
The Toppers also limited the Running Eagles to just one shot on goal, highlighting a disciplined defensive performance against one of the SSAC's strongest opponents.
The Toppers will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 25, when they face the Dalton State Roadrunners in their final match of the regular season.
