Blue Mountain, Miss.- Blue Mountain Christian University announced today the appointment of Mallory Jo "M.J." Mitchell as the new assistant coach for BMCU Softball. 
A former standout player for the Toppers, Mitchell transitions into her coaching role armed with a rich history at BMCU and a deep commitment to her faith and community.
Mitchell, a BMCU alumna, had an illustrious playing career highlighted by numerous accolades, including being named SSAC Freshman of the Year in 2022, and earning a spot on the SSAC Champions of Character team three years.
Beyond her athletic prowess, she maintained a strong academic record, consistently earning a place on the SSAC All-Academic team throughout her four-year tenure. 
Her impressive .308 career batting average in the competitive SSAC stands as a testament to her skill and determination on the field.
Having graduated in May 2025 with a degree in Exercise Science, Mitchell is described as embodying the core values of BMCU's community.
Her commitment to her faith and dedication to serving others were significant factors in her selection for the coaching position. 
Head Coach Matt Brunet commented, "No one represents Blue Mountain Christian Softball better than M.J. Mitchell.  Her passion, preparation, and servant-leadership made her the ultimate teammate and will make her an amazing coach.  I am proud and excited to work alongside her next season."
Mitchell herself expressed excitement about her new role, emphasizing her connection to BMCU's community and her eagerness to contribute positively as both a coach and a servant leader.  "For the past four years, BMCU has helped me grow tremendously, so I'm overjoyed at the opportunity to see what else Christ shows me," Mitchell said.
Mitchell is a member of Sardis Springs Baptist Church in Athens, Ala. and is actively a part of Blue Mountain Baptist Church in Blue Mountain.
