BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian kicked off its three-game SSAC series with No. 9 William Carey here Friday night, as the Crusaders took Game 1 by a score of 16-4.
Carey put up six runs in the opening frame, highlight by a grand slam from Hays Carley and an RBI double by Tyler Ducksworth.
Blue Mountain answered in the bottom half, as Josiah Rivera doubled in a run and Chris Smith singled in a run.  Rivera would come around to score on a groundout, making it 6-3 after the first.
The Carey offense kept rolling in the fourth and fifth, as they Crusaders plated seven more across the two innings, capped by three two-run singles, making it 13-3.
Three more would cross the plate for Carey in the sixth, and Blue Mountain getting an RBI single from Will Crawford in the seventh, but the Toppers couldn't muster any more, giving Carey the mercy rule victory.
Rivera led the Toppers with two hits in the loss.
Max Bates (2-4) would suffer the loss for BMCU, tossing 3.1 innings, allowing nine runs on eight hits with two Ks.
The two teams will square off in a doubleheader tomorrow to decide the series at 1 and 3:30 p.m. on Blue Mountain's Senior Day.
