BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Christian and Thomas (Ga.) convened here Thursday to begin the three-game SSAC series between the two, as the Toppers would take Game 1 by a score of 11-6.
The Toppers' first inning included six runs that included a two-run single by
Ross Polizzi and an RBI single from
Chris Smith.
Will Crawford would knock in a run, along with Smith scoring on a bases-loaded walk and Roberson scoring on a wild pitch.
Blue Mountain piled on in the bottom of the second with two more, as Crawford scored on a groundout and
Josiah Rivera hand an RBI single to make it 8-0.
The Night Hawks would get a run in the third, but the Toppers answered with three more in the bottom half of the inning, as
Will Crawford hit a sac-fly to right and
Chris Smith belted a two-run single to right, making it 11-1.
Thomas would get a sac-fly in the top of the fourth for their second run of the game.
The Night Hawks would score four more in the top of the ninth, but it wouldn't be enough.
Starter
Cameron Gordon (2-2) was money on the bump for the Toppers, as he tossed eight innings, gave up just two earned runs on eight hits with seven Ks for the win.
Smith and Rivera led the way with three hits each, with Smith driving in three and scoring twice.
Polizzi finished with two hits and two RBI, while Crawford had two RBI
The two teams will square off again Friday in a doubleheader to decide the series with first pitch set for 1 p.m. CT.
