MOBILE, Ala. – Blue Mountain Christian Women pulled off a huge SSAC upset here Saturday, defeating the second-best team in the conference, Mobile, winning 68-66 in overtime.
The Lady Toppers were in full control until the third quarter, leading the Rams by 14 points at one time in the second half.
With time running down and a second left to go on the clock, Mobile's Alanna Donaldson hit at three to tie the game at 59-all, sending it to OT.
OT belonged to the Lady Toppers, as
Crystin Guy would bury a pair of free throws,
Maddie Kirk got a layup, and two free throws and
Rebecca Walter hit a big bucket.
Blue Mountain saw four women hit double digits in scoring, with Guy leading at 15 and six rebounds.
Kathryn Echols would score 14 for BMCU, including four threes, while
Charnita Brooks scored 13.
Walter would finish with 12 points, six boards and three blocks, while Kirk chipped in nine points and seven boards.
The Topper defense would hold the high-powered Mobile offense to 34 percent shooting, while BMCU shot 41 percent.
Blue Mountain's bench came up big, chipping in 17 points in the victory.
BMCU (14-9, 6-7 SSAC) next hosts SSAC foe Brewton-Parker Thursday, February 13 in Blue Mountain, with tip set for 5:30 p.m. CT.
