Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Toppers battle No. 6 Freed-Hardeman at home

Blue Mountain, Miss. - Blue Mountain Christian women's basketball took the floor in Tyler Gym on Tuesday afternoon, facing the undefeated No. 6 Freed-Hardeman Lions in a competitive matchup that ended in a 65–52 decision in favor of the visitors.
The opening quarter set a strong tone for the Toppers, who matched Freed-Hardeman shot for shot in a fast-paced start.
BMCU moved the ball well and found early rhythm from the perimeter, knocking down three triples in the first period and taking a brief lead in the final minute as they closed the quarter ahead 20–19.
Maddie Kirk and Rebecca Walter sparked the offense early, combining for 12 first-quarter points.
The second quarter brought a defensive grind on both ends. Freed-Hardeman's length on the perimeter forced the lady Toppers into tougher looks, and the Lions used a few key stops to edge ahead.
Still, BMCU held firm defensively, limiting FHU to just seven points in the period. Kathryn Echols and Dominique Collins contributed key possessions to keep the margin tight heading into halftime.
Out of the break, the Lions found momentum with a strong third quarter, using a combination of mid-range shooting and points in the paint to create separation.
The Toppers continued to battle, with McKenzie Williams finding success at the foul line and Kirk generating offense off the dribble.
A late scoring push from BMCU kept the game within reach, but Freed-Hardeman extended its lead to 46–38 by the end of the third.
In the fourth, both teams traded baskets as BMCU continued to fight for late momentum.
Kirk led all Lady Toppers with 16 points, adding six rebounds and four steals in a balanced performance.
Walter followed with 11 points and four rebounds. Echols contributed 6 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists, while Isabella Carlson added 6 points and three assists of her own.
Williams provided a strong interior presence with 8 points and 8 rebounds.
The Lady Toppers showed grit throughout the afternoon, competing with toughness.
BMCU will return home on December 4th to face Loyola University.
