Montgomery, Ala.- Blue Mountain Christian University Volleyball opened Thursday's neutral-site doubleheader with a dominant sweep over Faulkner before battling through four competitive sets in a tough loss to Mobile.
The Volley Toppers started their day in commanding fashion, sweeping Faulkner behind one of their most efficient offensive performances of the season. BMCU hit an impressive .412 as a team, tallying 39 kills and only 6 errors in the match.
Salice Speed powered the attack with 13 kills on a .591 percentage, while
Marissa Gerleman added 7 kills and 3 block assists. Middle blocker
Caleigh Grace Turpin contributed 4 kills and a strong blocking presence with 4 total blocks.
Setter
Reanna Brown orchestrated the offense with 20 assists, 6 digs, and 3 kills of her own, while
Peyton Kidd supplemented the attack with 12 assists and 2 service aces.
Defensively,
Kora Wilson led with 16 digs, anchoring a backline that held Faulkner to a -.048 hitting percentage.
BMCU controlled all three sets from start to finish, including a statement 25–8 opening set that set the tone early.
In their second match of the day, the Toppers opened strong with a 25–22 first-set victory, but Mobile responded with three tightly contested sets to take the match 3–1.
Salice Speed once again led the offensive effort with 14 kills on .333 hitting, while
Valeria Velez added 9 kills, 5 digs, and a service ace.
Middle blocker
Caleigh Grace Turpin turned in an efficient 8-kill performance on .400 hitting, while
Rachel Stegall chipped in 9 kills and a solo block.

Defensively,
Kora Wilson dominated the back row with 26 digs, keeping BMCU alive in multiple long rallies as Mobile's offense heated up late.
