Toppers battle to the wire, fall short against Crowley’s Ridge

Blue Mountain, Miss.– In a game that went down to the final seconds, the Blue Mountain Christian University Toppers fell 66–63 to the Crowley's Ridge College Pioneers on Tuesday night inside a packed Tyler Gym.
The opening half was a tale of runs. The Pioneers started hot, jumping out to an early 10–1 lead behind efficient mid-range shooting from Azani Smith and Jamir Todd. But the Toppers didn't flinch.
Fueled by strong defensive pressure and back-to-back buckets from Michael Hill and Esrael Yant, BMCU stormed back midway through the first half to take a brief 13–12 lead. From there, the teams traded baskets with intensity — every possession earning a roar from the home crowd.
Crowley's Ridge regained the edge before the break, leading 35–31 at halftime despite several key steals by Yant, who had five in the first half alone.
The second half mirrored the first — fast-paced, physical, and full of hustle. The Toppers continued to fight behind Hill's relentless scoring. The junior guard scored nine of his 19 points after the break, hitting tough shots in the lane and igniting the home crowd.
RJ Robinson brought energy off the boards, pulling down eight rebounds and converting a pair of strong layups that trimmed the Pioneers' lead to one possession midway through the half.
With under four minutes to play, Kam Carter came up with a key steal and fastbreak bucket to make it 61–59, forcing a Crowley's Ridge timeout. Despite BMCU's late surge, the Pioneers managed to hold on at the free throw line in the closing moments to secure the 66–63 win.
Hill led all scorers with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting and added five rebounds. Yant contributed 9 points, 8 steals, and 2 blocks in an outstanding defensive showing. Carter tallied 8 points and 4 steals, while Robinson posted 8 points and 8 boards.
The Toppers forced 23 turnovers as a team and dominated inside with 46 points in the paint, but struggled from long range, finishing 3-of-27 from three-point territory.
Crowley's Ridge was paced by Cam Miller and Bodie Bowden, who each scored 11 points, while Azani Smith added 10 points and 7 rebounds.
