BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Blue Mountain Christian Men battled the defending national champion and No. 1 team in the nation, Dalton State, here Saturday, falling 0-2 in a competitive match.
The first half saw a defensive struggle, as the Toppers held their ground until the 42:17 mark when Dalton States' Sergej Misic found the back of the net on an assist from Sohail Ebrahimi to carry a 1-0 lead into the break.
The first half saw Blue Mountain Christian fire off several shots, with
Karim Swedi shooting twice withing 10 seconds and Dalton keeper Nestor Mendez grabbing two saves.
In the second half, the Toppers pushed downfield and got a shot from Swedi again, but it was wide right.
BMCU's
Dipanda Silva Jr. would get a shot off at the 75-minute mark, but Mendez would make a diving save to keep it 1-0.
The Roadrunners would get another to ice the game at the 86:05 mark as Misic scored again.
Jesus Calvo was solid at keeper for the Toppers, notching four saves despite the loss.
BMCU (4-6-2, 2-3-1 SSAC) returns to SSAC play Thursday against Faulkner in Montgomery, Ala. with kickoff slated for 6:30 p.m. CT.
