DECATUR, Ala. – Blue Mountain Christian Softball went an impressive 3-2 as the No. 9 Seed team Thursday and Friday at the 2024 SSAC Softball Championship, as they upset Mobile and defeated Thomas twice.
The Toppers opened the first round by knocking off No. 8 Seed Thomas University Thursday morning 2-1, thanks to a gem in the circle from
Jacy Weaver.
Weaver shut down the Night Hawk offense by tossing a complete game, allowing a lone run on seven hits and fanning five.
Weaver's offensive help came through in the top of the seventh, and proved to be the game-winner,
Maryn Macri scored on an error and
Evi Edwards drove in
Haley McDaniel for the win.
The Toppers would suffer a 6-2 setback to state foe William Carey in the second game but rebounded in Game 3 by ousting Thomas from the tournament with a 4-3 victory.
Once again, the Topper ladies scored three late runs in the sixth inning on a three-run double by
Iris Farve to send them to the next round.
Weaver (10-10) would toss another complete game in the circle by striking out five and grabbing the win.
BMCU would pull off its biggest upset of the season in Game 4 by eliminating No. 18 nationally ranked Mobile in a stunning 2-1 victory.
Par for the course, the Toppers would score two in the seventh inning when Macri crossed the plate and
Kennedy Turner scored
Mallory Jo Mitchell on a sac-fly.
Blue Mountain's pitching was stellar, as the trio of
Bri Langley,
Madison Montgomery and
Jacy Weaver shut down the high-powered Ram offense for just three hits. Montgomery notched the victory while Weaver closed with a save.
In Game 5, the Toppers couldn't overcome a six-run second inning by No. 5 Seed Stillman, and the run would come to an end as they fell 9-3.
BMCU didn't go quietly, as they banged out nine hits in the loss, with
Audrey Hillis driving in two with a pair of sac-flies and
Evi Edwards ripping an RBI single in the third.
Langley (6-9) would suffer the loss in the circle, tossing an inning, allowing five runs on four hits.
Edwards,

Julianna Ingram all had two hits each for the Toppers to close out the season.
"I'm so proud of this team," BMCU head coach
