THOMASVILLE, Ga. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain traveled to Thomas University Saturday for an SSAC doubleheader.
The Toppers would get a 5-3 victory in Game 1 behind another solid outing from righty
Jacy Weaver.
Weaver (6-8) tossed a complete game for the Toppers, giving up seven hits with two Ks.
Blue Mountain's big inning came in the third when they scored three runs on a Nighthawk error, a wild pitch and a sac-fly from
Evi Edwards.
In the sixth, the Toppers added insurance runs on RBI double by
Skylar Lee and a ground out RBI from
Evi Edwards.
Thomas' three runs would all come in the sixth, but Weaver and the Topper defense would stifle the rally to hold on for the victory.
Haley McDaniel had three hits for the Toppers in the victory, followed by Lee and Edwards with two RBI apiece.
Audrey Hillis would also chip in a pair of hits.
Lee would swipe her 21
st base of the season, putting her just five away from tying the BMCU school record.
As a team, the Toppers have stolen 58 bases on the season, sneaking up on the team record of 65.
GAME 2
Blue Mountain would complete the sweep in the second game, getting the conference win by a score of 7-5.
Thomas didn't waste time, as they would get four runs in the opening inning against BMCU starter
Bri Langley. The inning was capped by an RBI double by AnnMarie McAfee.
Blue Mountain rallied in the fourth for four runs of their own, as
Skylar Lee,
Haley McDaniel and
Maryn Macri scored on errors and
Kennedy Turner had an RBI single to tie it.
The Toppers grabbed their first lead in the fifth on an
Evi Edwards ground out that scored McDaniel, making it 5-4.
In the seventh,
Evi Edwards and Turner would give the Toppers a 7-4 lead on an RBI double and RBI single for insurance, wrapping up the sweep for Blue Mountain.
Langley (5-4) settled in to pick up the victory, tossing a complete game, giving up five runs on nine hits with four Ks.
McDaniel collected three more hits and scored three runs for the Toppers, while Turner had three hits and two RBI. Edwards would also finish with two hits and two RBI in the victory.
The Toppers swiped three more bases as a team, bringing them to 61 on the season.
BMCU (15-19, 7-11 SSAC) returns to action Tuesday against Bethel (Tenn.) in non-conference action in Blue Mountain at 2 and 4 p.m. CT.
