BATON ROUGE, La. – Blue Mountain Christian Softball picked up a victory over NCAA DI SWAC member Southern University Wednesday, blanking the Jaguars 1-0.
Blue Mountain's
Jacy Weaver (2-6) spun a gem in the circle for her team, tossing a complete-game shutout, allowing only three hits with six Ks.
Haley McDaniel did the damage for the Toppers offensively, as she would have an RBI single in the top of the second to drive in
Lillie Johnson.
McDaniel would lead the way with two hits, while
Mallory Jo Mitchell,
Iris Farve,
Sam Whitwell, Jadyn Yarbo, Johnson and
Destiny Dill all had a hit in the victory for Blue Mountain.
The two teams were schedule for a doubleheader Wednesday, but due to injuries, Southern could only play one game in the non-conference face-off.
BMCU (8-12, 0-6 SSAC) returns to action Saturday in a pivotal SSAC doubleheader against UT-Southern, slated for Blue Mountain at 2 and 4 p.m., but with expected rain, the games will possibly be moved to Corinth, Miss. at the same times.
