BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Blue Mountain Christian Women downed UT-Southern in SSAC action here Saturday 81-70 to round out the regular season.
The Lady Toppers will now set their sights on Stillman in the SSAC Championship next week in Montgomery, Ala.
Five Lady Toppers hit double figures in scoring on Senior Day, led by
Charnita Brooks who shot down the Firehawk defense for 27 points, including four from deep.
Crystin Guy wasn't far behind, as she chipped in 17 points, while
Rebecca Walter had 12 points.
Isabella Carlson and
Alexis Wynn would chip in 10 points apiece for Blue Mountain in the victory.
With only one lead change in the game, Blue Mountain held a 39-32 lead heading into the break.
Blue Mountain would shoot 46 percent on the day, knocking down nine threes.
"It wasn't necessarily a must-win game for us, but it certainly didn't hurt to get it," BMCU head coach
Tracy Rice said. "Our ladies fought hard the last few weeks to make sure we got to the SSAC Championship Tournament, so I'm extremely proud of them. We know we have a tough task ahead, but we're playing very well right now, so we're excited to move on."
As the No. 9 seed in next week's SSAC Championship, Blue Mountain will get a chance at revenge against Stillman who has beaten them twice this season.
The two teams will lock horns Wednesday, February 28 at 12:30 p.m. CT at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala.
BMCU finishes the regular season 8-18 overall and 5-13 in SSAC play.
