Women’s Soccer falls in West Virginia

MONTGOMERY, W.V. – Blue Mountain Christian Women rounded out its final non-conference schedule opponent here Wednesday, falling to West Virginia University Technical Institute 4-nil.
The Golden Bears scored at the 19:30 mark in the first on a netter from Ares Canut, unassisted, followed by a second goal right before half from Isabella Covarrubias.
The Toppers could only manage two shots on goal in the first half, while WVU Tech got off three.
The Golden Bears wasted little time in the second, getting a goal from Carson Barr on an assist from Canut to take the 3-0 lead.
With the Topper offense reeling, WVU Tech would score one more time to put the match away when Maddie Lott found the net on an assist from Emilia Botto with less than five minutes left to play.
The Blue Mountain offense would get off seven shots on goal on the day, but WVU Tech keeper Sandra Garcia Quilez earned the clean sheet shutout.
BMCU keeper Jordan Gates was fired at six times with two saves in the loss.
BMCU (2-4-1) opens SSAC play Saturday, as they host No. 10 UT-Southern at Topper Pitch at 1 p.m. CT.
