Volley Toppers sweep through PSC and Bethel at Tri-Match

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – MATCH 1 - Blue Mountain Christian picked up two more non-conference victories Tuesday night here at the Bethel Tri-Match, sweeping Philander-Smith and the host Wildcats in six sets.
Up first, the Toppers took care of Philander-Smith 3-0 (25-0, 25-0, 25-0) behind a 10-kill performance by Olivia Ashton.
Ashton had her way with the PSC defense, hitting at a .474 clip in the match, while Kaytie Rutland chipped in six kills at a .556 clip.
The Toppers earned seven points on aces alone, led by Michaela Frederick and Kerianna Collins who both had three each.
A'Dasia Porter came up big on defense, gathering five total blocks, three assisted and two solo, and Jaiyah Jackson pitched in eight digs.
Reanna Brown would lead in assists, handing out 19, while Frederick had eight for the Toppers.
 
MATCH 2
In the nightcap, Blue Mountain wiped out Bethel 3-0 also, winning 25-15, 25-14, 25-12.
Gigi Sasso terrorized the Bethel defense, putting away 15 kills at a .419 clip while digging out nine balls on defense.
Reanna Brown set Sasso up for most of her kills, ending with 16 assists, while Michaela Frederick had seven assists to boot.
Randi Crandall and Rae Ann Hall provided assistance, with both ladies swatting seven kills each.
Jaiyah Jackson was solid once again, coming away with 12 digs in the Topper victory.
The Toppers logged six blocks in the contest, as A'Dasia Porter had three of Blue Mountain's four blocks, two assisted and a solo.
"I was very pleased with how we came out tonight and handled business," BMCU head coach Reid Gann said.  "Our girls were on point and played at a high level.  I can see us improving each match, so we're looking forward to conference soon."
BMCU moves to 6-1 on the early season and next begins its SSAC schedule with UT-Southern up first Saturday, September 9 in Blue Mountain with first serve set for 1 p.m. CT.
