Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MT. VERNON, Ga. – GAME 1 - Blue Mountain Christian and Brewton-Parker opened conference play here Thursday in the SSAC Game of the Week, with the Toppers getting the upper hand in Game 1, winning 5-4.
A big inning offensively in the sixth would put the Toppers over, as they scored four in the frame thanks to a Barons' error, and a two-run single to center by Tyra Yahola that scored Sam Whitwell and Jadyn Yarbro.
Blue Mountain's first run came in the top of the second on an RBI single by Whitwell.
The Barons would score one if the bottom of the sixth, but Topper starter Harley Mullins was able to hold their offense in check to pick up the win.
Mullins (5-1) tossed a complete game, giving up one earned run on five hits with four Ks.
Whitwell and Thaxton both had two hits apiece for the Toppers, with Whitwell driving in two.  Yahola also added two RBI in the victory.
 
GAME 2
Blue Mountain completed the two-game sweep in the backend game, winning 4-3.
The Toppers got a run in the opening frame on an error, as Tyra Yahola crossed to give BMCU a 1-0 lead.
In the second, Yahola would drive in Sindle Williams and Skylar Lee with a double to left, giving the Toppers a 3-0 lead.
The Barons answered with two runs in the bottom of the second, but Blue Mountain was able to get another run in the top of the sixth on a sac fly from Jadyn Yarbro to score Sam Whitwell.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Barons would get a run to make it 4-3, load the bases with two outs, but would get called for runner interference on an infield grounder to Lee at short to end it, giving the Toppers the SSAC victory.
Williams finished with a pair of hits in the win for Blue Mountain, while Yahola had two RBI.
Jacy Weaver (3-4) would get the pitching win for BMCU, throwing 6.2 innings, giving up seven hits with five Ks.
Lane Thaxton (1) would grab the save in relief, getting the final ground ball.
BMCU (9-5, 2-0 SSAC) returns to SSAC action Saturday against Middle Ga. St. in Cochran, Ga. in a doubleheader at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. CST.
