BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 1 – Blue Mountain Softball used a five-run fifth inning Thursday in Game 1 to rally and down Faulkner in SSAC action 6-2.
With Faulkner leading 2-0, the Topper bats broke out in the fifth starting with an RBI back-to-back RBI single by Hailey McDaniel and
Tyra Yahola to tie it 2-2.
Mallory Jo Mitchell followed up with an RBI double to left and
Lane Thaxton drove Mitchell in with a single to center before Faulkner could pull starter Katelynn Inness.
Blue Mountain would finish off the Eagles in the sixth with a sac fly by
Jaci White to score
Jadyn Yarbro.
Harley Mullins (6-4) tossed a complete game, allowing two runs against five hits with a staggering 10 Ks.
Yarbro finished with two stolen bags, while McDaniel, Yahola and
Evi Edwards all had a stolen base each in the win.
GAME 2
Faulkner rebounded in the nightcap, winning 2-1 in a thriller that would see an extra inning.
Both teams scored in the fourth with Faulkner's Colby Adams doubling in a run against BMCU's
Lane Thaxton, and the Toppers scoring against starter Ivey Hill on an error by Faulkner's Anna Purvis to plate
Tyra Yahola.
In the eighth, the Eagles would plate a run on an RBI single by Gracie Pittman.
The Toppers would threaten in the bottom of the frame with runners on first and second but couldn't capitalize.
Thaxton (1-1) suffered the loss for the Toppers in the circle in relief, tossing six innings, giving up two runs on two hits with a K.
Hill got the win for Faulkner, throwing a complete game, giving an unearned run on seven hits with two Ks.
Yahola and
Destiny Dill both had two hits in the loss for Blue Mountain.
BMCU (14-16, 5-9 SSAC) returns to action next Friday in SSAC play against Stillman at Blue Mountain at 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday's (April 1) doubleheader against Talladega has been forfeited by Talladega and will give the Toppers two conference wins.
