BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – GAME 1 (
Box Score) Blue Mountain Christian hosted Williams Baptist for a two-game non-conference set Tuesday, easily winning 18-4 in Game 1 behind a seven-RBI game from
Austin Beech.
The Toppers would get five runs in the first capped by a two-run double from
Zack Koon.
In the bottom of the fourth, Beech knocked in two with a double and Koon drove in another with a single to center, giving BMCU a 9-0 lead.
In the fourth,
Nash Schingle clobbered his second homer of the season, and the Toppers piled on in the bottom of the sixth.
In the frame,
Reiley Tate and
Josh Smith both singled in runs and Beech capped it with a three-run homer to right.
Blue Mountain abused four Eagle pitchers in the victory, while
Taylor Sipes picked up the win on the bump for the Toppers. Sipes would toss five innings of three-hit ball, surrendering no earned runs with five Ks.
Smith led with four hits for the Toppers, while Beech had three hits, three runs scored and seven RBI.
Koon,
Gavin Coles and
Easton Rainer all chipped in two hits for Blue Mountain. The Toppers would go on to pound out 15 hits.
GAME 2
(
Box Score) Blue Mountain would sweep the series in the evening game, winning 16-2 behind a combined no-hitter from five pitchers.
Matthew Koch,
Cole Giordano,
Caleb Bass,
Weston Fuller and
Drew Humble were the five Topper hurlers involved in the no-no, with Giordano grabbing the win with two innings pitched.
Williams Baptist two runs came off a receiving error by Topper first baseman
Jacob Rousseau in the third inning.
The Toppers scored two in the second on RBI singles by
David Dickerson and
Reiley Tate against WBU's Eric Tolar.
The Eagles would get two in the top of the second, but the Toppers opened the floodgates in the bottom of the frame.
Hayden Arant and
Gavin Coles both had RBI doubles in the inning and
Wade Phyfer singled in a run.
Dickerson would drive in another with a single in the fourth, followed by a two-run single to left by Coles. Tate capped off the inning with an RBI triple.
Arant struck again in the fifth, ripping a three-run double to right, while Tate finished off the Eagles in the sixth with an inside-the-park homer.
Tate finished with three hits and four RBI, and Arant had two hits and four RBI. Coles, Rousseau, Phyfer,
David Dickerson,
Bryland Skinner all had two hits apiece for the Toppers.
"The guys played extremely well today," BMCU head coach
Taylor Clark said. "We hit balls in the gaps and our pitching did outstanding. I'm really happy for the guys who combined for the no-hitter, that's a tough thing to accomplish in college baseball."
BMCU (14-3) opens SSAC play Friday and Saturday against Stillman in Tuscaloosa, Ala. with first pitch Friday at noon CT and Saturday at noon CT.
