BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Keevin Etienne and
Trae Jones guided Blue Mountain Christian to a 59-58 victory over Central Baptist in the final game of the Johnnie Armstrong Classic here Saturday, with Etienne putting up his third double-double of the season.
Etienne would pull down 11 rebounds in the first half alone, before finishing the game with 15 boards and 13 points.
The catalyst though for the Toppers would be
Trae Jones who score 11 points in the second half as he diced up the Mustang defense by penetrating to the paint for buckets. He would finish with 15 points to lead the Toppers in scoring while pulling down six rebounds.
Manny Patrick would also pour in 11 points for the Toppers while swiping four steals.
With the game tied 50-50 at the seven-minute mark, Jones got free and busted a three from deep to give his team the lead.
Three minutes later, Jones cut through the lane to score a deuce helping to seal the non-conference win for the Toppers, along with their second straight victory.
"The guys really got after it today and beat a solid team," BMCU head coach
Jermael Bingham said. "I'm really pleased with how we continue to move the ball and get open shots near the goal. We had several guys step and make big plays today and force several turnovers. Hopefully we can carry this momentum over into conference play next week."
Texas Tech transfer Deshawn Corprew had a big game for CBC, also recording a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
BMC (6-5, 0-3 SSAC) is now on a two-game win streak and will next host Mobile in SSAC play Thursday in Blue Mountain with tip set for 7:30 p.m. CT.
