BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Despite four players in scoring double-figures, Blue Mountain Christian Men dropped a close SSAC matchup to Stillman Saturday 65-62.
Down three with time winding down, Blue Mountain had two opportunities within 15 seconds to try and tie it. Both times failed with the ball squirting through
Vincent Douglas' hands on a pass reception, and later with three seconds, Douglas looked to receive another pass to shoot the deep ball but was called out of bounds to give Stillman the ball and the victory.
Antonio Bates would lead Stillman with a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Marcus Bates hit for 17 with four boards.
Darien Newchurch led Blue Mountain with 14 points, with
Manny Patrick scoring 13 with five steals and five boards.
Jalen Boyd-Savage chipped in 11 points for BMCU in the losing effort and teammate
Keevin Etienne would score 10.
The Tigers wouldn't miss too often, as they would shoot 48 percent from the field and controlled the boards 31-24.
The Toppers were perfect from the free-throw line today, hitting 18-of-18 from the charity stripe.
BMCU (4-5, 0-3 SSAC) is currently on a four-game skid and will look to end it Friday, Dec. 8 against Arkansas Baptist at 7 p.m. CT in the opener of the Johnnie Armstrong Classic in Blue Mountain, set for Friday and Saturday.
