MOBILE, Ala. – Blue Mountain Christian completed the 2023 volleyball season undefeated in SSAC play, as they blew through Mobile Saturday 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-18).
The Volley Toppers finished a perfect 15-0 in conference play and wrapped up the SSAC regular-season title Friday in the win over Mobile.
The big story in today's match was Blue Mountain's front line, as the Toppers stuffed 18 balls hit their way, with
Olivia Ashton and
Randi Crandall leading the way with five assisted blocks each with Ashton also collecting two solos and Crandall one.
"Our front did a fantastic job on the net today," BMCU head coach
Reid Gann said. "Our girls just didn't give them many angles to look at. That's big in helping win games."
Ashton would also lead the way with 11 kills at a .407 clip, while
Kaytie Rutland had eight kills at a .444 clip.
Reanna Brown and
Michaela Frederick provided the assists in the 6-2, with Brown dishing out 15 and Frederick with 14.
Jaiyah Jackson was stealthy once again on defense for the Toppers, digging out 16 balls while
Gigi Sasso also had 11 digs.
"It's a big accomplishment to go undefeated in conference play, especially one like the SSAC," Gann said. I'm very proud of all these ladies have accomplished this season."
BMCU (21-1, 15-0) finishes the regular season on a 19-game win streak with a 22-set winning streak. The last set the Toppers dropped came against Life on October 7.
The Volley Toppers will now turn their attention to a three-peat in the SSAC Championship Tournament, slated for November 9-11 in Montgomery, Ala. at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl.
