BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The home opener for Blue Mountain Men didn't go as planned Thursday night, as the Toppers fell to former SSAC foe Bethel (Tenn.) 66-63.
Despite the double-figure scoring from three Toppers, the Wildcats would hold on to get the non-conference victory.
BMCU's
Keevin Etienne led all scorers with 17 points, including nine rebounds, one short of his second straight double-double.
Jalen Boyd-Savage would chip in 15 points in the loss for the Toppers, while
Ty Pickron had 14.
Down 32-27 at the break, the Toppers would battle back to eventually take a 51-48 lead in the second thanks to an Etienne three-pointer.
With the game tied at 54-54, Bethlel's Tyler Neely would drain a three to give his team a three-point lead that they wouldn't surrender.
The Toppers would struggle shooting from downtown, going 5-of-28 while Bethel hit 7-of-19.
Bethel would also dominate the boards, outrebounding the Toppers 49-21.
BMCU (1-2) returns to action Monday, November 6 in exhibition against NCAA DI University of North Alabama in Florence with tip set for 7:45 p.m. CT.
