MARIETTA, Ga. – Life Men survived a 26-point performance from Blue Mountain's
Vincent Douglas to eke out a 78-76 victory here Saturday in SSAC play.
The Running Eagles would counter with a 24-point game from Devin Story and hold on down the stretch against the Toppers.
Blue Mountain's
Keevin Etienne would go to the foul line with a couple seconds left in the game and miss both in the heartbreaker.
The Toppers would hold a 37-36 lead at the break, but Life would pull out on an 11-0 run early in the second thanks to two threes from Story.
The loss is Blue Mountain's second straight, and second straight SSAC loss.
Darien Newchurch and
Ty Pickron also saw double figures in scoring for Blue Mountain, with Newchurch getting 12 and Pickron 11. Etienne chipped in 10 points and six rebounds.
Topper sparkplug
Manny Patrick was solid, dishing out 12 assists with three steals, seven rebounds and five points.
Blue Mountain's bench would put up 44 points in the loss, and limit Life's to just 11.
The Toppers shot well at 46 percent, Life just shot better at 53 percent, with the Toppers going 9-of-25 from three-point range and Life going 12-of-24.
BMCU (4-4, 0-2) returns Tuesday in exhibition action against NCAA DI Nicholls State in Thibodaux, La. with tip set for 6:30 p.m. CT.
