MONTGOMERY, Ala. – MATCH 1 – Blue Mountain Christian blew through No. 8 seed Faulkner Friday morning at the SSAC Championship 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-18) in what was essentially a warm-up for the semifinals.
SSAC Player of the Year wreaked havoc on the Eagle defense, putting away 14 kills at a .462 clip, while
Rae Ann Hall notched nine kills for the Toppers.
Reanna Brown once again led in assists with 19 and
Michaela Frederick had 16 in the 6-2 rotation for Blue Mountain.
Jaiyah Jackson led in digs, pulling out 13 while
A'Dasia Porter had two assisted blocks and a solo.
Kaytie Rutland chipped in two assisted blocks.
Jackson also collected three service aces on the day, with Sasso gathering two of her own.
Blue Mountain would hit .293 in the match while holding Faulkner to a miserable .022.
The victory gave the Volley Toppers Pool A, sweeping a perfect 3-for-3 heading to the semifinals.
MATCH 2
There were no chinks in the armor as the Volley Toppers clinched a spot in the finals in the nightcap, winning its fourth straight sweep of the tournament by easily defeating William Carey 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-18).
The win puts Blue Mountain on a 23-game winning streak with 40 straight wins against SSAC foes along with a 40-set winning streak.
Gigi Sasso led in hitting for the Toppers, blasting 10 kills and
Olivia Ashton belted nine kills at a .467 average.
Jaiyah Jackson dug out 16 balls for Blue Mountain, while
Reanna Brown dished out 17 assists and
Michaela Frederick had 13 in the 6-2. Brown also knocked down two service aces.
The Topper front line blocked 10 balls as
A'Dasia Porter collected three assisted,
Kaytie Rutland had two assisted and
Randi Crandall and Ashton both had one assisted and one solo each.
"Consistency has been the key for us in the tournament," BMCU head coach
Reid Gann said. "Our ladies have positioned themselves for another run at this title and I'm extremely pleased with our play. We have a big one ahead of us, so we must keep that consistency to win."
BMCU (25-1) will now match up with the winner Friday night's Loyola and Mobile match Saturday in the finals where they will try to win their third straight SSAC Tournament title with first serve set for 2 p.m. CT.
