Shane enters into his seventh year as head fishing coach at Blue Mountain Christian University. Cox, a native of Union county, is also the former owner of Hammer Fishing Rods. Having been an outdoorsman his entire life, it wasn’t until his 11-year-old son took an interest in competitive bass fishing that he considered a career in the sport. He had owned and operated a heavy equipment transportation company for many years keeping time to spend on the water at a minimum. As Shane was just starting to pick up on his son’s talent and love of bass fishing, an unexpected opportunity to purchase Hammer Fishing Rods became available. The company was purchased in 2013, soon becoming his main focus as he built a foundation that would stay in the family for years to come. During this time, he would spend most weekends being boat captain for his son’s high school team. As they traveled competing in these youth events, Shane quickly became aware of the tight-knit relationships being formed between adults and youth that resulted directly from the love of being on the water. As a supporter of young anglers, his company sponsored many high school teams, clubs and organizations formed to keep our youth hooked on the sport. As his son was in the midst of making a higher education decision, Shane was elated when hired as the head fishing coach at then "Blue Mountain College" located in northern Mississippi. Shane considers his greatest accomplishments being those where he can build relationships with young adults through a completely natural connection in the outdoors.

Residing near JP Coleman State Park in Tishomingo county, Shane will be celebrating 35 years of marriage this August with his wife, Sandie.  They have one son Ty, who recently married the former Madison Raines of Tupelo. Upon graduating from Blue Mountain College, Ty obtained his U.S.C.G. license to guide on Pickwick Lake. Ty also owns First Flight Outdoors LLC which specializes in the sale and installation of marine electronics. When not traveling with the BMCU Toppers, you can find Shane helping Ty with rigging at their shop which is located near Pickwick Lake.
