St. Simons Island, Ga.- The No. 16 Blue Mountain Christian University men's golf team opened its fall season with a strong runner-up finish at the Coastal Georgia Fall Invite at Sea Palms Golf Resort.
The Toppers put together rounds of
282, 270 and 278 on the par-71 course to finish with a three-round team score of 830.
BMCU finished second in the 15-team field, just five strokes behind tournament champion Reinhardt, which finished with an 825.
BMCU was led by an outstanding performance from
Alex Nordstrom, who captured the individual championship at 12-under par with a three-round score of 199 (70-65-64).
After opening the tournament with a one-under 70, Nordstrom found another gear in the final two rounds.
He fired a six-under 65 in the second round before closing with a seven-under 64 to secure the individual title.
Cobey Riddle gave the Toppers another presence near the top of the leaderboard, finishing third overall at nine-under par.
Riddle improved his score in each round, carding a 204 (69-68-67) while playing all three rounds under par.
Axel Houdaille made it three Toppers inside the top seven, finishing seventh at four-under par. Houdaille posted a 209 (70-66-73), highlighted by a five-under 66 in the second round.
"I thought our guys did a tremendous job competing from start to finish," BMCU head coach
Kevin Barefield said. "Alex obviously had an outstanding tournament, and Cobey and Axel gave us some really strong golf as well. To have three guys finish inside the top seven and come away with a runner-up finish gives us a lot to build on. There are still areas where we can get better, but this was a very encouraging way to start our fall season."
Carlos Frutos finished tied for 29th at four-over par, recording a 217 (73-70-74).
Acen Lambert rounded out BMCU's team lineup with a 221 (73-75-73) to finish tied for 40th at eight-over par.
The Toppers also had two golfers competing as individuals.
Ayers Mathis put together a strong showing to finish tied for 16th at one-over par, carding a 214 (70-74-70).
Adrian Perez finished tied for 24th at three-over par with a 216 (71-71-74)

BMCU's best team performance came in the second round, when the Toppers combined for a 270, 14 strokes better than the team's opening round.
The Toppers followed with a 278 in the final round to secure second place.
With an individual champion, two golfers inside the top three and three inside the top seven, the No. 16 Toppers leave St. Simons Island with a strong start to their 2026 fall campaign.
