BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The nationally ranked No. 12 men's golf team of Blue Mountain Christian University will head to Silvis, Ill. next week to compete in the 74
th NAIA Annual Men's Golf National Championship, marking the team's second-ever appearance in the event.
After a season of battling against NAIA Top 10 programs, the stiff competition paid off with an at-large bid to the tournament that features 29 teams and 11 individuals, all vying for a title at TPC Deere Run Golf Course with the schedule set for May 12-15.
"Making the NAIA National Championship Tournament is a tremendous accomplishment for our men's golf program," head coach
Kevin Barefield said. "This team has worked incredibly hard all year, stayed committed through every challenge and represented Blue Mountain Christian University the right way. I'm very proud of these young men and excited they will get the opportunity to compete against the best teams in the country."
BMCU has reached its highest ranking in program history this year, with the team rising as high as 8
th in the country in March.
BMCU Athletic Director Curt Fowler commented, "We have watched this team continually improve and become a national contender. That's not by chance, because Coach Barefield and Coach (Cam) Kohl have invested everything it takes to make this program what it is. We're extremely proud of these guys and look forward to watching them compete for a national title."
