Montgomery, Ala.- The Blue Mountain Christian men's tennis team competed in SSAC conference play Tuesday against the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Stallions in Montgomery, Alabama, with the Toppers coming up short in the conference contest.
ABAC claimed the doubles point after winning all three doubles matches.
At No. 1 doubles,
Adriaan Engelbrecht and
Luis Lainer faced a tough ABAC pairing and fell 6-1.
Maj Langerholz and
Shriraam Anbanantan dropped their No. 2 doubles match by the same 6-1 score, while
Pablo Cruz and Kevin Kotzé battled in the No. 3 position before falling 6-3.
In singles competition, Engelbrecht turned in one of the most competitive matches of the day at No. 1 singles.
After splitting the first two sets 6-3 and 3-6, the match was decided in a tight third-set tiebreaker where Engelbrecht narrowly fell 12-10.
ABAC secured the remaining singles points at Nos. 2 through 6.
Pablo Cruz fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while
Craig Blevins dropped his No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-1.
Kotzé competed at No. 4 singles and fell 6-4, 6-2.
Anbanantan fought in his No. 5 singles match before falling 6-0, 6-4, and Lainer battled at No. 6 singles before coming up short 6-0, 7-5.
The Toppers will continue SSAC play as they look to bounce back in their next conference matchup.
