New Albany, Miss.- The Blue Mountain Christian Toppers opened Southern States Athletic Conference play in strong fashion with a 4–3 victory over UT Southern in their first conference matchup of the season.
The Toppers gained early momentum during doubles play, winning two of the three matches.
Camila Mordiz and
Eugenia Ramos led the way with a convincing 6–1 victory.
Kiersten Terris and
Nami Malyaporn added another point for Blue Mountain Christian with a 6–2 win.
Lina Cetina and
Lucia Rodriguez Garcia battled in their match but ultimately fell in a close 7–6 decision.
In singles play, Mordiz continued her strong performance at the No. 1 position, earning a dominant 6–2, 6–0 victory.
Cetina followed with a solid effort of her own, claiming a 7–5, 6–0 win.
Malyaporn also secured an important point for the Toppers with a 6–0, 6–3 victory.
Eugenia Ramos fought through a tightly contested match before dropping the third-set tiebreaker, 2–10.
Lucia Rodriguez Garcia fell in her match 0–6, 3–6, while
Kiersten Terris also dropped her singles match 3–6, 0–6.
The hard-fought victory marked a great way for the Toppers to open conference play as Blue Mountain Christian secured the 4–3 win over UT Southern.
