Nordstrom sets program record as No.13 Toppers finish fourth at Carey Collegiate

Hattiesburg, Miss.- The No. 13 Blue Mountain Christian University men's golf team delivered an impressive performance this week at the Carey Collegiate presented by Walk-On's, finishing fourth in a highly competitive 15-team field at the Canebrake Golf Club in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
The tournament featured one of the strongest fields the Toppers have faced this season, including five NAIA programs ranked inside the Top 15 nationally and three additional teams receiving votes, meaning more than half of the field consisted of nationally recognized programs.
Despite the strength of the competition, the Toppers rose to the challenge with several standout individual performances highlighted by a historic round from Alex Nordstrom
Nordstrom led Blue Mountain Christian with a third-place individual finish, recording rounds of 70-71-65 for a 206 total.
His final round of 65 not only vaulted him up the leaderboard but also set a new program record for the lowest round in BMCU men's golf history, finishing six-under par on the Canebrake layout.
Another Topper finishing near the top of the leaderboard was Cobey Riddle, who turned in a remarkable tournament performance to tie for fifth place.
Riddle opened the event with two strong under-par rounds of 69 and 68 before closing with a 71, finishing the tournament with a 208 total.
His consistent scoring provided a major boost to the Toppers' team finish.
Simon Meiby also contributed a strong showing for Blue Mountain Christian, placing inside the Top 20.
Meiby fired rounds of 72-69-74 to finish at 215, highlighted by a three-under-par second round of 69 that helped keep the Toppers firmly in contention during the middle portion of the tournament.
Damil Ataullah added another solid performance, finishing inside the Top 40 with rounds of 71-75-76 for a total of 222.
Ataullah opened the tournament with an even-par 71, helping set the tone early for the Toppers.
Rounding out the scoring lineup for Blue Mountain Christian was Acen Lambert, who finished 49th overall with rounds of 75-73-77 for a 225 total.
Head Coach Kevin Barefield was proud of the way his team competed against one of the strongest tournament fields of the season. "Any time you can finish near the top of a field with this many ranked teams, it says a lot about the way our guys competed," Barefield said. "Alex's record-setting round was special to watch, and Cobey played outstanding golf all week. We had several guys step up, and this tournament showed that we can compete with some of the best programs in the country."
The strong showing at the Carey Collegiate was highlighted by multiple under-par rounds and a program-record performance, signaling continued momentum for the Toppers as they move forward in the spring season.
