Little Rock, Ark.- The BMCU Men's Tennis team faced a demanding day of competition, opening play against Texas A&M–Texarkana before closing the afternoon with a tightly contested matchup against John Brown University.
In the first match of the day, the Toppers were tested by a deep TAMU Texarkana lineup and fell 0–7.
Doubles play began with
Adriaan Engelbrecht and Kevin Kotzé competing at the No. 1 position, where they dropped a 6–3 decision.
At No. 2 doubles,
Craig Blevins and
Caleb Rogers were defeated 6–0, while the No. 3 pairing of
Pablo Cruz and
Luis Lainer battled but came up short, 6–3.
Singles play followed with Texarkana maintaining momentum across the lineup. Engelbrecht competed closely but fell 6–3, 6–3, while Cruz dropped his match 6–1, 6–0.
Kotzé was defeated 6–1, 6–2, and Lainer fell 6–0, 6–1. Blevins closed singles action with a 6–2, 6–0 result.
Despite the final scoreline, the match provided valuable experience against a strong opponent.
The Toppers responded with a resilient performance in their second match of the day against John Brown University, pushing the contest to the final points before narrowly falling 4–3. Doubles play proved challenging early, as Engelbrecht and Kotzé dropped their match 6–1, while Blevins and
Maj Langerholz were also defeated 6–1.
Cruz and Lainer battled at No. 3 doubles but fell 6–3, leaving BMCU trailing heading into singles.
Singles play showcased the Toppers' response and competitiveness across the lineup. Engelbrecht delivered a strong performance, earning a 6–2, 6–3 victory.
Cruz followed with a dominant showing, securing a 6–0, 7–5 win. Rogers added another point for BMCU, winning his match via a 7–4 tiebreaker. Several matches came down to narrow margins, as Kotzé and Blevins both battled into tiebreakers before falling 10–7, while Lainer competed closely in a 7–5 first set before dropping the second set 6–1.
The close finish against John Brown University reflected the Toppers' fight and growth throughout the day, as BMCU responded to adversity with composure and determination, keeping the match within reach until the final moments.
