Jackson, Miss.- Blue Mountain Christian men's cross country put together a strong showing at the Belhaven Invitational on Saturday, placing third out of nine teams at the meet hosted by Belhaven University.
The Toppers finished with 76 points behind a pair of top-seven performances from Jonah Barnhardt and Lukas Dykes.
Barnhardt led BMCU across the finish line, completing the 8K in 26:55.3 to place fourth overall. Dykes followed with a seventh-place finish, clocking a time of 27:31.3 to give the Toppers two runners inside the top 10.
Samuel Aguilar was the third finisher for Blue Mountain Christian, crossing in 28:56.4 to take 21st overall.
Braxton Enzor and Erick Flores finished back-to-back to round out BMCU's scoring five. Enzor placed 29th with a time of 29:55.9, while Flores followed in 30th at 30:10.8.
"I thought our guys competed really well today," BMCU head coach Phillip Laney said. "Jonah and Lukas gave us a great start up front, and we had several guys step up behind them. Finishing third in a good field gives us something positive to build on moving forward."
Jacob Waller finished 41st with a time of 31:08.6, and Austin Ellis crossed in 48th at 32:28.0. John Thomas Draper clocked a 33:34.7, followed by Lelan Boulden at 35:09.0 and Noah Harrington at 35:22.0. Samuel Hutchinson rounded out the Topper lineup with a time of 36:32.3.
BMCU's five scoring runners combined for 76 points to secure third place in the nine-team field.
